What is an apprenticeship?
Kick-start your future with an apprenticeship
If you want a great start to your career, an apprenticeship could be the answer. They are a fantastic alternative to traditional sixth form and college routes, and are free for those aged 16-18.
During an apprenticeship you will:
- have a job
- earn a wage
- gain nationally recognised qualifications
- receive industry-specific training on the job
- gain real industry experience
- get paid holidays
How apprenticeships work
During your apprenticeship, you’ll typically spend most of the week at work learning practical skills, and attend college one day a week to learn the theory side of your job. You’ll also gain other transferable workplace skills such as maths, English, ICT and communication. We will support both you and your employer throughout your training, which usually lasts between one and two years.
On completion of your apprenticeship, you’ll have gained nationally recognised qualifications, a wealth of experience and the skills needed to succeed in your chosen career. It will also stand you in good stead for progression within the workplace.
Apprenticeships are available in a wide range of roles. Whether you’re interested in pursuing a hands-on career in a workshop, warehouse, kitchen, business or on-site, or an office-based career, there’s an apprenticeship for you!
