International cuisine in the heart of Crawley

Students working in the production kitchenCrawley food lovers are in for a treat, when the College’s training restaurant, Le Cordon Vert, opens its doors to the public again this October.

Budding chefs have been busy preparing delicious menus, which are available at selected times each week, with lunches and evening meals and take-away dishes available. Those with a taste for international cuisine are invited to come along to one of the themed evenings which take place every other Tuesday evening. The three course menu is amazing value at just £15.50 per person, and diners are able to choose from three tasty starters, mains and desserts.

Jo Chappel, Programme Manager for Hospitality, Travel and Tourism at the College says: “Our first themed evening is on the 8th October and is ‘Best of British’. The menu includes a Scottish smoked salmon roulade; pork, apple and Somerset cider tartlet; Guinness battered haddock and hand-cut chips; shepherd’s pie made with Welsh lamb and an English sherry trifle. It will be great for the students to put their learning into practice, and it all counts towards their assessments, so it’s fantastic when members of the public come along to support them.”

She continues: “The themed evenings are great fun and both students and diners really get into the spirit of things – some of them even dress-up especially! I’d encourage anyone who would like to find out about forthcoming events at Le Cordon Vert to visit www.centralsussex.ac.uk/lecordonvert or call in and pick-up a list. Coming-up before Christmas there is a special Halloween evening, a traditional carvery night and an Indian-inspired event, with many more themed evenings planned for next year.”

Le Cordon Vert is also open for lunch, Tuesdays – Thursdays, 12-2.45pm; in the evenings, Tuesdays 6-9.15pm (set three course menu or theme nights) and Thursdays 5-8pm for a bistro service. It also operates a Café Service every Friday, 8.30am-2pm serving cot and cold snacks and speciality coffees.
