Clive Behagg - Vice Chair

Clive Behagg

Vice Chancellor, University of Chichester, Chair (designate) of Chichester Academy Trust

Clive Behagg was appointed Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Chichester on 1st January 2011 after serving for nine months as Acting Vice-Chancellor. He also holds a Personal Chair in History at the University and is the author of Politics and Production in the Early 19th Century. Between 1996 and 2009, whilst Deputy Principal and then Deputy Vice-Chancellor, he was also seconded for 40 days a year as an Institutional Auditor and Review Chair for the Quality Assurance Agency, conducting reviews in over sixty universities and colleges in the UK.

Clive is a governor at Central Sussex College and has chaired its Curriculum Quality and Standards Committee. He is also a governor of The Regis School and has been since it became an academy. Until recently he was also a member of the LGB of Littlehampton Academy, and served for ten years as a governor at the Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ Collyer’s Sixth Form College, where he chaired the Quality and Standards Committee.

Clive is Vice Chair of the Board, chairs the Standards Committee and is an ex-officio member of the Search and Remuneration Committees.

Lee Harris

Lee Harris

Lee Harris joined the board of Central Sussex college in March 2015 and is a member if the Resources Committee. Lee has been Chief Executive of Crawley Borough Council since 2008. Prior to that he was Assistant Chief Executive at Southend Borough Council. Lee spent his early career in local government working for a number of London councils. Lee has a strong background in urban regeneration and strategic business planning. Lee has a degree in politics and a masters in urban policy.

Lee is also a non-executive director of the Gatwick Diamond Initiative and a trustee of Transform Housing and Support.

Lee is married with two school aged daughters.

Anahita Henry

Anahita Henry

Anahita Henry has been a member of Central Sussex College teaching staff for over 8 years. She is the Business, Law and Enterprise Education Programme Manager and Coach for the College. She has worked with students from level 1 to level 7 at the college with a focus on progression, raising aspirations and has a desire for all her students to develop an enterprising mind set. She has devised curriculum plans for enterprise education and is the Lead Internal Verifier for her subject area.

Her previous experience has been involved with e-learning and ILT strategies for implementation in the UK and represented her employers on a number of education consortiums. During her time in internet and telecommunications she worked for Cable & Wireless, reporting to the Board and its Vice Presidents. She was actively involved in business planning, carrying out marketing and strategic analysis on business units and companies.

Anahita is passionate about education and believes that it is through education alone that the positive transformation in individuals and society can occur. She continuously strives to motivate and inspire the learners to achieve to their full potential. She has been educated in both Iran and the UK and lives in Haywards Heath.

Anahita is a member of the Audit Committee.

Janice King

Janice King joined the Board in March 2015 and is a member of the Standards Committee.

Chris Maidment - Chair

Corporation Chairman - Chris Maidment

Chris Maidment is a Chartered Accountant, and was a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers until December 2012.

After 23 years as a partner, the last nine spent in the Gatwick office, Chris retired from PwC in December 2012. His experience includes advising a range of companies across many industry types, in both the public and private sectors, on financial, controls, strategic and employment matters. He was heavily involved in graduate recruitment and personnel matters, as well as skills development training.

He is Chair of the Crawley Local Economy Action Group, and the business representative on the Crawley Local Strategic Partnership. Chris is keen to work with local business to drive the economic prosperity of the area, to provide appropriate employment opportunities supported by skills training for the local communities.

He lived and went to school in Hove, before moving to Haywards Heath. He is married with four children, all of whom were educated locally.

Chris is Chair of the Board and of the Resources Committee, Search Committee and Remuneration Committee.

Patrick McHale

Patrick Mchale

Patrick joined the Board in December 2013 product Programmes at City and Guilds, managing the entire strategic programme of product development across twenty eight occupational sectors. He manages a £22 million budget and team of 200. Patrick previously worked in the private sector – management consultancy in the accountancy sector and executive recruitment – after founding, developing and selling his own company in the development and improvement sector.

Patrick is interested in History and Art as well as American Football.

Patrick is a member of the Audit Committee.

Ryan Sallows

Ryan Sallows

Ryan joined the Board in March 2014. He is the Business Manager at Oriel High School in Crawley and an ex-employee of Crawley College (in the Student Services Department). Ryan previously worked for the local Education Authority, West Sussex County Council, in the Advisory and Inspection Service.

Ryan is a member of the Standards Committee.

James Sarmecanic

James Sarmecanic

Dr. James Sarmecanic set up a consulting business in 2014, providing financial and business modelling services to corporate clients. Previously he was Head of Financial Planning & Analysis at Mapeley, where he'd been since 2001. He has considerable experience in the commercial real estate sector, having spent the last 15 years analysing property portfolios from both an investment and operational perspective.

Prior to this, James completed the Corporate Finance Executive course at London Business School while working for niche consulting firm Operis, where he worked on projects across a range of sectors including oil & gas, real estate, aviation and the regulated water industry.

James was educated in the USA, completing a BS in physics and a PhD in astrophysics at the University of California. He is passionate about maths and science and is interested in finding ways to improve teaching and learning in these areas.

James joined the Corporation in early 2014 and is a member of the Resources Committee.

David Scott

David Scott

David has been involved with training and education for most of his career, at first as a Training & Development Officer in the Royal Air Force, then in industry. This has given him a special interest in the links between employers and education providers, something he has pursued through working as a governor of a number of schools and colleges.

Since 2000 David has run his own Learning & Development consultancy, specialising in leadership and management development. He has worked with clients from the manufacturing, banking, oil & gas, retail, services and public sectors, and his projects have taken him to continental Europe, South-East Asia and the Middle East.

A keen linguist, David speaks fluent French and Spanish, with slightly rusty German. His qualifications include a degree in languages, a PGCE in Further Education, and an MBA. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development.

David has lived in Horsham since 2003. He is a keen cyclist and may be spotted on the local roads most Sunday mornings wearing Horsham Cycling kit and a grimace.

David is Chair of the Audit Committee and is an ex-officio member of the Search and Remuneration Committees.

Ramesh Shingadia - Vice Chair

Ramesh Shingadia

Ramesh Shingadia joined the Corporation in March 2010 and was a member of the Curriculum, Quality and Standards Committee. He currently sits on the Task & Finish Group on revising the Instrument and Articles of Government and on the Special Committee.

Ramesh is a successful local business and property developer, combining that with his passion as a retail consultant working at Board level with several companies including KPMG, Unilever, Skillsmart Retail and the Association of Convenience Stores. His experience and passion with Skillsmart Retail, the Government Council for training in the retail industry was extensive, including the implementation of the Apprenticeship scheme in the retail industry. He was also a non-executive director with the Horsham and Chantonbury Primary Care Trust (PCT), and chaired the Capital Development Committee for Horsham Hospital, the Working Lives committee including provisions for staffing at Horsham Hospital, and the IT Committee. He is also the current chair for the West Sussex Police Independent Advisory Group.

He is an active community player and has championed several community projects including a large community and cultural centre project in Crawley. This included gaining planning permission and acquiring the site for a now successful centre.

He is passionate about adding value in the community and sees education as one of the key pillars in improving individuals and communities. He believes in lifelong learning. Ramesh has a number of qualifications including an MBA, a degree in Civil engineering, and a qualification in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management.

Ramesh has lived in Horsham for over 30 years, is married with two children and enjoys going to the gym, cycling and is an avid trekker.

Ramesh is Vice Chair of the Board, and is an ex-officio member of the Audit Committees.

Sarah Wright - Principal

Sarah Wright - Signature

Sarah Wright is currently Principal and CEO of Central Sussex College. She is nationally involved as a Governor of Anglia Ruskin University and a Member of the AoC Reputation Management Board and AoC Principals’ Funding Portfolio Board.

Sarah was Principal and Chief Executive Officer of Seevic College from 2009 to 2012; Vice Principal of Warwickshire College from 2006 – 2009; Executive Director Curriculum and Quality at Solihull College from 2003 – 2006; an Additional Inspector for OFSTED from 2002 – 2009 and, between 1993 – 2003, a Lecturer and a variety of posts following successive promotions, including leading the College’s first grade 1 (OFSTED) curriculum area. Final post: Director of Quality at Warwickshire College.

Sarah’s education includes GCE A’ Levels in English, History and Mathematics, BA Hons in History and Politics from the University of Warwick and Qualified Teacher Status (Certificate of Education (FE)).

Sarah sits on the Search, Standards and Resources Committees.
