Business AS/A Level

Course Type:Normally part of a full-time programme of study delivered throughout the week.

Qualification: AS/A2 Business (AQA)

Duration: One year for AS and 2 years for A Level GCE in Business

Venue: Haywards Heath Campus, Harlands Road, Haywards Heath, West Sussex, RH16 1LT

Start Date: September

Suitable For: This is a more traditional, academic course that would be taken as part of a programme of AS Levels. In this course you will learn about the nature of business activity, and you will develop an appreciation of the factors that affect business decision-making.

You should have a genuine interest in the current business and economic environment and as this course is 100% exam based, you need to have effective study skills.

Entry By: Interview

Entry Requirements:

5 GCSEs at Grade C or a Merit at BTEC First Diploma
Grade C in Mathematics.
Grade C in English.

Course Content:


At both AS and A2 levels, the following areas are covered:

- Starting a Business
- Financial Planning
- Accounting
- Finance
- External Influences
- People
- Operations Management
- Objectives and Strategy
- Marketing and Competition


In the A2 year strategic management of a business is explored from the perspective of the four key functional areas.

External influences and managing change are also examined.



How will I be assessed?:
AS Level:
* Unit 1 Planning and Financing a Business
1 hour exam - 40% of AS / 20% of A Level

* Unit 2 Managing a Business
1 hour and 30 minute exam - 60% of AS/ 30% of A Level


A2 Level:
• Unit 3 Strategies for Success
1 hour and 45 minute exam - 25% of A Level

• Unit 4 The Business Environment and Managing Change
1 hour and 45 minute exam - 25% of A Level

Outcome of Course and Progression:

AS and A2 Business Studies qualifications are accepted by all higher education institutions and highly valued by employers in a wide range of careers.

Cost:

Optional student conference each year. Cost approximately £34. Additional educational trips and visits are offered to venues such as Paris, London and New York. These are optional and costs are determined by numbers.

Students are advised to buy books costing approximately £25 per year.
