This course is suitable for those wishing to return to learning who are thinking about university or professional training.
People currently in a support role who wish to progress to professional training.
Entry By: Interview and Asssessment
Entry Requirements:
Assessed at interview. You do not need to have any formal qualifications to
start an Access Course but you need to show that you are ready to study at Level 3.
GCSE Maths, English and Science are required for the teaching profession.
Course Content:
Access is a nationally recognised qualification designed to meet the needs of adult students returning to study.
Access qualifies you to study on a range of courses at university. Access courses enable students to gain 60 credits.
Students choosing the arts and humanities pathway will have the opportunity to study a combination of English, History, Psychology and Sociology which will prepare them for progression into a wide range of Higher Education courses including English, Media, Law, History, Psychology and Teacher Education.
There may be an opportunity to take GCSE Mathematics or English, or an equivalency, if needed. However students interested in Teacher Education will need to have GCSE Science before joining the course in order to fulfil the Teacher Training Agency requirements.
You will receive extensive learning support as you return to study. All Access Courses have an emphasis on developing key skills and you will follow an academic development programme, including studying IT to support your academic work. You will also have a Personal Tutor who will track your progress and help you develop study strategies. Your tutor will also support you with your applications to University.
Outcome of Course and Progression:
This course offers an exciting and relevant curriculum that can lead students into various higher education and career directions. You will study a common core but select options relevant to your needs. Not all study options will be available at each campus.
Students can gain 60 Level 3 credits
45 credits at level 3 and 15 at level 2 are required to pass the course
The Access Diploma qualification enables adult students to progress to higher education.

Come along to our Haywards Heath campus at 6pm on Thursday 23rd February to find out more about the Access Diploma. The evening will include a 30 minute presentation at the start followed by an opportunity to chat to tutors..
Please consult the University you wish to progress to for any IELTS requirements, as this is not covered within the Access Diploma.
