Suitable For: First line managers wishing to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to develop their career in management and leadership. On successful completion, candidates will be able to progress onto the CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership.

Entry By: Interview

Entry Requirements:

Candidates should hold a CMI Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading or equivalent standard, or appropriate management experience for entry to this programme.

Course Content:

The Certificate in Management aims to develop knowledge and understanding of supervisory management methods and thinking. The programme concentrates on the practical application of management theory and principles in the context of the team leader or supervisor, thus providing a foundation for continuing professional development.

The Certificate in Management is awarded to candidates who successfully complete the following modules:

Personal development as a first line manager
Resource planning
Meeting stakeholder needs
Managing and communicating information
Developing individuals and teams
Being a leader
Improving team performance

Outcome of Course and Progression:

Having successfully completed this course, the student will know and understand:
-the operational processes concerned with ensuring that work place activities meet customer, organisational and health and safety requirements;
-the operational processes concerned with the successful introduction, maintenance and improvement of quality control, quality assurance and organisation wide quality activities;
-the role of the team leader in managing resources effectively;
-how to manage one's own personal and professional development and to build effective working relationships;
-the process of recruitment of people;
-how to develop teams and individuals in achieving team and organisational objectives;
-how to identify unsatisfactory performance and to provide support for individual concerned;
-how to manage information effectively.

On successful completion, candidates will be able to progress on to the CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership.
