Suitable For: This course is suitable for those interested in working with people and in studying topics around health and social care, the working of the human body and mind and the influences on it. The course is suitable for 16-19 year olds or mature students.

Entry Requirements:

You need to have a minimum of four GCSE passes at grade C or above, one of which must be English Language. Those who want to take the Health Studies or Health Science pathway need to have both GCSE Maths and Science at grade C or above. Those with a Merit in a Level 2 qualification can also apply.

You will need to have a clear Criminal Records Bureau check at the Enhanced Level, which the college will process. You will also need to successfully complete the application process which includes a written assessment and an interview.
Please note: there is an additional fee for the CRB check, this will enable the learner to undertake a work placement.

Course Content:

Over the 2 years you will cover 18 units which will include some of the following: Communication Skills, Equality and Diversity, Anatomy and Physiology, Physiological Disorders, Caring for Children, Development Trough Life, Health Safety and Security in Care Settings and Public Health. This is a practical work related course. Coursework is based on real workplace situations, activities and demands. The course develops the practical skills, necessary attitudes and knowledge base needed to launch you in a career in the health professions.
You are required to undertake work placement experience in a variety of settings.
Assessment is by coursework

Outcome of Course and Progression:

The course is equivalent to 3 A Levels. Employers and HE institutions value BTEC National Level 3. This specialist Level 3 course prepares you for employment in the care sector or further study at University level for degrees in Nursing, Social Policy, Health Studies, Managing Health and Care Services, and other care related professional training, such as Paramedic or Occupational Therapy.

Cost:

For the future academic year home students Under 19 on 31 August will not have to pay any tuition, awarding body, exam or administration fees. Students may make a voluntary contribution towards these costs if they wish. Students who are over 19 on the 31st August will have to pay tuition, awarding body, exam or administration fees.
All students will need to pay Other Fees, £96, which include placement uniform, course handbook and CRB check.
