Suitable For: Those who have completed the Construction Diploma – Carpentry and Joinery Level 1and who wish to further their skills and abilities in Site Carpentry to tradesman level. Successful completion of this qualification will enable you to progress to the third year of study

Course Content:

The course which focuses on practical activity but includes some written theory and portfolio building, consists of the following units:
CC 1001K Know how to carry out safe working practices in construction
CC 1001S Carry out safe working practices in construction
CC 2002K Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others 2
CC 2002S Information, quantities and communicating with others 2
CC 2003K Knowledge of building methods and construction technology 2
CC 2003S Building methods and construction technology 2
CC 2008K Know how to carry out first fixing operations
CC 2008S Carry out first fixing operations
CC 2009K Know how to carry out second fixing
CC 2009S Carry out second fixing
CC 2010K Know how to erect structural carcassing
CC 2010S Erect structural carcassing
CC 2011K Know how to carry out maintenance
CC 2011S Carry out maintenance
CC 2012K Know how to set up and operate a circular saw
CC 2012S Set up and operate a circular saw
At this intermediate level, working in our simulated site environment, you will learn a wide variety of practical skills (and theoretical knowledge) which will prepare you for working on site. You will learn to fit joists, studwork, trusses, doors and frames, skirting, architrave, staircases and kitchens amongst other things. There will be a number of theory assessments with a final practical assignment to complete the qualification.

Other Details:

Course is approx 40% theory, 60% practical. You will need to provide pens, pencils and drawing equipment for the theory side as well as safety footwear. Other Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied as necessary.

Outcome of Course and Progression:

To achieve nationally recognised qualifications that will prepare the student for work in the industry or a third year of study focussing on the chosen trade of Site Carpentry.

Cost:

For the future academic year home students Under 19 on 31 August 2011 will not have to pay any tuition, awarding body, exam or administration fees. Students may make a voluntary contribution towards these costs if they wish. Students who are over 19 on the 31st August 2011 will have to pay tuition, awarding body, exam or administration fees.
