Suitable For:
Anyone with a keen interest in Bricklaying who wants to gain the necessary
hand skills and knowledge to enable them to work in the industry. This course is ideal for people who wish to gain a Level 1 qualification in Brickwork.

Entry Requirements:
You must be at least of 16 years of age, have completed secondary education and have a desire to enter the Brickwork trade. You should have fair GCSE results (at least two at grade D or above, preferably in Maths and English). Successful completion of the Building Craft Occupations course is desirable.
Course Content:
The course consists of 14 units: 7 units are knowledge based with 7 units based on practical assignments.
The units cover:
Safe working practices,
Information,
Quantities and communicating with others,
Building methods and construction technology,
Basic Blocklaying,
Basic Bricklaying,
Cavity walling and contributing to setting out basic masonry structures.
You will also be expected to undertake Functional Skills at an appropriate level and a Personal and Social Development Award.

• Ongoing practical assessment throughout the course
• Online knowledge testing
• Practical end phase test

Outcome of Course and Progression:
Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying there is an opportunity to progress onto a level 2 Diploma in Brickwork.
Cost:
16-18 year olds will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. However they are required to pay for other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits.
Students aged over 19 on the 31st August in the year in which they start their studies, have to pay tuition fees. In addition they are expected to pay awarding body registration and exam fees, other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits.
Some students may be eligible for a fee concession, although in most cases some element of the fees will have to be paid.
Please note: Other costs (books, uniforms, trips, materials etc) will be £25.00
