Course Content:
This is an exciting new course designed to give students a broad experience of a wide variety of creative arts and media disciplines in an industry-inspired setting. Collaborating with the internationally renowned company at Glyndebourne, students will devise, plan and perform a production, inspired by a newly commissioned work, to go on tour in the local area. It will include filming and producing documentaries of the entire project and learning specific media and marketing skills.
1. Principal Learning (occupying more than half of your course time).
This is the main part of the qualification and is organised into 7 units encompassing a wide range of creative and media disciplines. The work you do here is directly related to the knowledge and skills required by the creative and media industries and is driven by creating a new performance production inspired by the team at Glyndebourne. It will involve a lot of practical work with you being required to take on a range of roles and responsibilities; and also being able to show your research, planning, monitoring and evaluating skills. The assessment for subjects will be mostly project driven with some external assessment.
2. Additional and Specialist Learning (occupying almost 1/3 of your course time) You will take specialist courses in media production, including Animation and Web Design.
3. Work Experience
Work experience is an important part of the Diploma and offers you the opportunity to apply and add to your knowledge, understanding, skills and experience of the world of work.
4. Student Project
The project is a stand-alone qualification that allows you to explore topics connected to the creative and media sector in more depth. It could also be an opportunity for you to take off in a totally new direction. It will be up to you to choose a topic of interest and how you’re going to present your work. You’ll need to show all the things you’ve learnt on your Diploma course. It could be a written piece of work, like a report; an investigation or something practical. You could design and build a website for a local event or project, maybe using video or pod casts to promote it. You must demonstrate project management skills when completing this work.
5. Functional Skills
You’ll still do English, Maths and ICT as part of your Diploma course. You’ll need to pass them at level 2 functional skill to get your Diploma qualification, and for whatever you go on to do next.
6. Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills
These are skills like team-working, creative thinking and self-management, and are integrated into the course units of study.
