Diplomas - Bringing Learning to Life!
An exciting new qualification in 17 subject areas or ‘Lines of Learning’ at three levels (Foundation (Level 1), Higher (Level 2), Advanced (Level 3)) is being introduced in stages from September 2008.
These are work-related, generic qualifications for 14 – 19 year-olds designed in consultation with employers and universities to ensure that young people are work-ready. They blend theoretical study with practical and applied learning related to an employment sector to give young people preparation for work or further study. The aim of these new qualifications is to give young people valuable transferable skills, sought after by employers and universities.
The qualifications comprise of Principal Learning (the main subject area), Additional or Specialist Learning (related to the main area or complementing it) and Generic Learning, including a focus on Maths, English and IT. They will also focus on involving learners in problem solving, working with others and working within a business context and include 10 days’ work experience at each level.
