This course is designed to provide a broad introduction to working in the Engineering sector and offers an opportunity to specialise in either electronics,
manufacturing or maintenance. It also offers progression to a BTEC National qualification in Engineering or an appropriate NVQ and discipline will be discussed at
interview. Candidates should possess a standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to four GCSEs at grades D-G or be in employment in a related industry.

No formal entry requirements but candidates will be required to attend an interview and entry test.
Course Content:
Core Units:
Developing self and working safely with others on Engineering activities, selecting materials, moving loads and applying quality control procedures.
Optional Units:- Fitting, using hand skills, Machining engineering materials, Producing sheet metal components and assemblies, joining Ferrous metals by welding, Using thermal cutting processes, Wiring and testing electrical circuits, Building, maintaining and testing electronic equipment, Using PLC based systems, Using CNC machines, Producing engineering drawing using computer aided design, Maintaining electrical engineering equipment/systems, Installing electrical wiring support systems, preparing and using industrial robots, hand forging engineering materials, Preparing fabricated assemblies using thick plate bar and sections.
Assessment:
The Knowledge requirements will be assessed by a short answer question paper for the core units.
The practical requirements will be assessed by an assignment for each unit.
Outcome of Course and Progression:
Level 2 Certificate in Engineering progression to Level 3 Certificate in Engineering.
