Music Performance BTEC Award/Certificate

Suitable For: This is a modern music course for vocal, guitar, bass and drum students.
It is ideally suited for those interested in developing their professional skills and aspiring to gain a comprehensive understanding of the music industry.

Entry By: Interview and Audition

Entry Requirements:

5 GCSEs at Grade C or above plus playing skills at Grade 3-5 or equivalent. Those with additional instruments, experience of band work and song writing will also be at an advantage.
All applicants will be required to audition to gain a place on this course.

Course Content:

This course is run with links to The Brighton Institute of Modern Music.

At Haywards Heath Sixth Form campus you can choose to study the one year BTEC National Award in Music Performance (equivalent to two AS Levels), specialising in guitar, bass guitar, drums or vocals.

This is a specialist course and we provide small group work in your music discipline (guitar, bass, drums or vocals)

Subject to successful completion of the BTEC Award, students have the opportunity to study for a second year which would lead to the BTEC Certificate in Music Performance (equivalent to two A Levels).

A typical student will study the BTEC Music Performance course and two other AS subjects in their first year.

• Working and Developing as a Musical Ensemble




Year 2 - BTEC National Certificate in Music

• Pop Music in Practice

There are many varied roles for individuals within the music industry, including singing, performing, editing and music management. Rewards for those who reach the top of their profession can be great, but this is a very competitive environment.

Outcome of Course and Progression:

BTEC National Award/Certificate. Progression to Higher Education courses. The course will help to prepare you for a career in the music industry.
