Suitable For:
This course is suitable for those with a good standard of football ability, assessed by a trial, and have an interest in a career in professional football.
The course combines academic study of a BTEC Sport course with participation in a programme which will show you the world of professional football and the high demands it makes on your time, self-discipline and motivation to succeed. Each year you will be developed in a way that gives you a chance to train and play at the highest level possible. Subject to successful achievement, attendance and behaviour then you will be able to progress to the second year. All units must be passed in year one to progress to year two.

Entry Requirements:
You will need to have a good standard of football ability which will be assessed by a trial. You will need to have at least 5 GCSEs at grade C or above; or a Merit at a BTEC Level 2 Diploma or an equivalent qualification.
Course Content:
You will learn how to prepare for high level matches and how to maximise performance. The squad of players will train regularly and have the opportunity to participate in league matches on Wednesday afternoons.
The course is made up of 19 units which add up to 180 credits.

• Technical and tactical skills in sport

• Rules, regulations and officiating in sport

• Work experience in sport
• Current issues in sport
Outcome of Course and Progression:
This course is designed to be year one of a two year football development programme. Each year students will be developed in a way which gives them the chance to train and play at a high level. Monitoring and evaluation will take place during and after each training session and match.
In addition to the BTEC course you will also be able to achieve a First Aid certificate.
Most units will involve theoretical and practical work. At times you will be expected to work away from direct supervision, and thus, are expected to show maturity and commitment to the requirements of the course. Most practical lessons will be based at K2 Leisure Centre. Students will be expected to make their own way to and from this facility, and in time for their lessons.
Cost:
16-18 year olds will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. However they are required to pay for other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits.
Students aged over 19 on the 31st August in the year in which they start their studies, have to pay tuition fees. In addition they are expected to pay awarding body registration and exam fees, other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits.
Some students may be eligible for a fee concession, although in most cases some element of the fees will have to be paid.
