Stay ahead of the competition

In today’s difficult financial climate, businesses who don’t invest in their staff are two and half times more likely to fail than those who do. It’s easy to neglect staff training in challenging times, yet this could be the key to your business staying ahead of the competition – and with Train to Gain, you can upskill your staff at little or no cost.

What is Train to Gain?

Train to Gain is a government initiative helping businesses fund the training their employees need via work-based qualifications.

Included in the service is the opportunity to undertake an organisational needs analysis, which will help to identify any skills gaps affecting your business. From this, our experienced and well-qualified team can develop and deliver a comprehensive training plan which may attract significant government funding through Train to Gain.

This may include specifically tailored provision which accurately reflects your business requirements, work-based learning qualifications (NVQs), and taught courses. Your employees will be supported, guided and provided with any Skills for Life training required, including English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

What training can be funded by Train to Gain?

Train to Gain can fully or partly fund NVQs in any sector at levels 2, 3 and 4, plus Skills for Life qualifications (such as literacy, numeracy and English as a second language) to support this learning.

Who is eligible?

Employed, self-employed, volunteers and agency workers can all participate in learning via Train to Gain. Recipients must be over 19, and there is no upper age limit. Eligibility will be by self declaration.

What does it cost?

The Train to Gain service is free to employers. NVQs can be fully funded at levels 2 and 3, or part-funded at levels 3 and 4, dependent on the recipient’s existing qualifications. In some sector areas it may be possible to fund a repeat level 2 or level 3 qualification.

Should your organisation be eligible for a wage subsidy (eg. if you employ fewer than 50 full-time employees), we will be able to provide support in accessing this.

How is training delivered?

Qualifications will primarily be delivered in the workplace on an assess/train/assess basis, or assessment only. Skills for Life assessments will be carried out for all learners at commencement of the programme. Where required, Skills for Life will be provided and will support the achievement of the vocational qualification, or can stand alone.

What our customers say

Both companies and individuals benefit from working with Central Sussex College. Here’s what a few of them have to say:

Following my first appraisal, my boss suggested I would benefit from a book-keeping course. I registered with Central Sussex College and have really enjoyed the experience of being a mature student…Around the same time my boss told me about an opportunity for me to be funded by Train to Gain to do an NVQ in Administration. I have been doing this and have so far achieved a City & Guilds level 2 in English. The whole experience has been positive and my employer has seen an improvement not only in my skills, but also in my self confidence.

Debbie Finch, Fundraising and Admin Assistant, Blond McIndoe Research Foundation.

Since we started the Train to Gain and Apprenticeship qualifications with Central Sussex College, several of my staff have successfully completed courses including Management and Customer Services. I feel this has been of real benefit to the individual and to the business, with a greater understanding of roles and responsibilities. The support and guidance from the College has been excellent and I fully recommend any company to take advantage of these qualifications and the service that Central Sussex College provides
