Apprenticeship in Warehousing and Storage
Competence Based Element : Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Warehousing and Storage
The OCR Warehouse and Storage qualification provides candidates with high quality, nationally recognised qualifications. They are vocationally-related, credit-based qualifications that provide valuable opportunities for individuals to develop skills, gain underpinning knowledge and understanding and demonstrate competence in the workplace.
Knowledge Based Element: Level 2 Certificate in Warehouse Principles
This qualification aims to allow learners develop the essential background knowledge and understanding for a range of common work roles in a Warehousing environment.
Functional Skills: Level 1 English and Level 1 Maths
English aims to develop learners skills to level 1 in Speaking, listening, communication, Reading and Writing
Maths aims to develop learners skills to level 1 in using mathematics, analysing situations mathematically, interpreting solutions to problems using mathematics and coverage of mathematical content in number, geometry and statistics

Suitable For: The apprenticeship in Warehousing and Storage is primarily aimed at candidates who undertake varied warehousing, storage and logistics activities at level 2. The qualification is about the safe and efficient receipt, movement, storage, handling and dispatch of goods in a warehousing and logistics environment. Candidates should have a degree of autonomy and be required to make decisions within agreed boundaries and limits.

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should be working in a warehousing and storage environment and an initial assessment will be carried out in the workplace to ensure that your job role meets the course requirements.
Course Content:
In order to complete the competence based qualification you will have to complete the mandatory units and a selection of the optional units listed below. Details of how many units you need to take will depend on the size of qualification you take and your assessor will help you to choose your optional units during their first visit.

1 Health, safety and security at work
2 Develop effective working relationships with colleagues in logistics operations
Optional units
3 Pick goods in logistics operations
4 Wrap and pack goods in logistics operations
5 Place goods in storage in logistics operations
6 Process orders for customers in logistics operations
7 Assemble orders for dispatch in logistics operations
8 Maintain the cleanliness of equipment in logistics operations
9 Keep work areas clean in logistics operations
10 Maintain hygiene standards in handling and storing goods in logistics operations
11 Moving and/or handling goods in logistics operations
12 Use equipment to move goods in logistics operations
13 Use a forklift side-loader in logistics operations
14 Use an industrial forklift truck in logistics operations
15 Use a hoist in logistics operations
16 Use a compact crane in logistics operations
17 Keep stock at required levels in logistics operations
18 Check stock levels and stock records
19 Operate equipment to perform work requirements in logistics operations
20 Receive goods in logistics operations
21 Maintain the safety and security of hazardous goods and materials in logistics operations
22 Process returned goods in logistics operations
23 Sort goods and materials for recycling or disposal in logistics operations
24 Supervise the receipt, storage or dispatch of goods
25 Contribute to the provision of customer service in logistics operations
26 Principles of Food Safety in Logistics
In order to complete the Certificate in Warehousing Principles you will need to complete the units listed below:
UNIT 1
UNIT 2 Developing effective working relationships with colleagues
UNIT 3 Developing working practices in a warehousing and storage environment

Outcome of Course and Progression:
On successful completion of this course you will receive a certificate detailing the size of qualification you have achieved and also a certificate listing the units you completed.
There is an opportunity to progress onto a Team Leading or Management NVQ if your job role meets the requirements.

Course Times/Timetable:
This course is delivered in the workplace. After initial assessment and induction your assessor will spend between 1 and 2 hours with you on a monthly basis in order to review what work you have completed and plan with you what work you need to complete before the next visit. Your assessor will also want to observe you in your workplace.
