Qualification: Apprenticeship – Level 2 Diploma in light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Competence and Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair principles (light vehicle) and Functional Skills in Maths, English at Level 1 and Employment Rights and Responsibilities.

Advanced Apprenticeship – Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair competence and Level 3 diploma in vehicle maintenance and repair principles and Functional Skills at Level 2.

Duration: Apprenticeship - 2 Years
Advanced Apprenticeship – additional 1-2 years

Suitable For: People working in the light vehicle service and repair industry.

Entry By: Interview

Entry Requirements:

Learners must be employed within the light vehicle repair industry.
Interview and diagnostic assessment.

The Principles, which is the underpinning knowledge is delivered through a block release course and assessed by online examinations. The competence based diploma is assessed in the workplace on practical ability by a qualified assessor.

Course Content:

The level 3 diploma in light vehicle maintenance and repair will include the following units:

- Health & Safety and good housekeeping
- Support for Job Roles in the automotive work environment
- Materials, fabricating tools and measuring devices in the automotive environment.
- Carry out routine vehicle maintenance
- Remove and replace engine units and components
- Remove and replace auxiliary units and components
- Remove and replace vehicle chassis units and components
- Inspecting light vehicles using prescribed methods
- Remove and replace vehicle transmission and driveline units and components

The level 3 diploma in light vehicle maintenance & repair will include the following units:
- Diagnose & rectify vehicle engine systems & component faults
- Diagnose & rectify vehicle chassis systems & component faults
- Diagnose & rectify auxiliary equipment electrical faults
- Identify and agree customer vehicle needs
- Diagnose and rectify transmission & system and driveline faults
- Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices in the automotive environment

Outcome of Course and Progression:

Successful learners will be awarded an Intermediate Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.

Cost:

Fully funded for 16-18 year olds and employer contribution for 19+
