Level 2 certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. This qualification combines both the competence and knowledge based requirements.
Functional Skills
Level 2 English
Level 1 Maths and ICT
Employment Rights and Responsibilities.

Advanced Apprenticeship:
Level 3 diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools.
This qualification combines the competence and knowledge based requirements.
Functional Skills
Level 2 English, Maths and ICT
Employment Rights and Responsibilities.

Duration: 1-2 years for each level.

Venue: At the workplace plus appropriate workshops as required at the college

Start Date: Flexible start dates for those employed in schools.

Suitable For: This course is suitable for Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants and those who support teaching and learning in schools.

Entry By: Interview

Entry Requirements:

Candidates should be working in an environment which can allow them opportunities to generate the necessary work based evidence.

Course Content:

Apprenticeship: Legislation, policies and procedures, child protection and risk management. Encouraging independence and positive behaviour
Children with communication difficulties. Being an effective team member and a reflective practitioner. Activities to support children’s learning.

Advanced Apprenticeship:
The course will include: the role of the teaching assistant, curriculum frameworks, how to enable learning, how to develop and promote positive behaviour, safeguarding children and reflecting on professional practice.
Candidates can select units to reflect their own working area and expertise.

Outcome of Course and Progression:

Advanced apprenticeship in supporting teaching and learning and then to foundation degree in Teaching & Learning.

Cost:

Free for 16 - 18 year olds, employer contribution for 19+ employees.
