Qualification:
The Apprenticeship’s consists of several separate qualifications. You will be required to work towards achieving these through a combination of college and work based activities.
Competence Based Element : Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Retail Skills
The Level 2 qualifications are ideal for those with some experience of the retail sector, and who may already have a basic competence in retail skills and require recognition for a wider range of abilities in retailing.
Knowledge Based Element: Level 2 Certificate in Retail Knowledge
This qualification aims to allow learners develop the essential generic background knowledge and understanding for a range of common work roles in a Retail environment.
Functional Skills in Mathematics and English at Level 1. English aims to develop learners skills to level 1 in speaking, listening, communication, reading and writing. Maths aims to develop learners skills to level 1 in using mathematics, analysing situations mathematically, interpreting solutions to problems using mathematics and coverage of mathematical content in number, geometry and statistics.

Suitable For: This qualification is most appropriate for candidates who are already competent in the basic skills and require recognition for a wider range of abilities in retailing.

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should be working in a Retail environment and an initial assessment will be carried out in the workplace to ensure that your job role meets the course requirements. It is also important to have your employers support in order to complete this course effectively.
Course Content:
In order to complete the qualification’s you will have to complete mandatory units and a selection of the optional units. Details of how many units you need to take and at which level will depend on if you are doing the Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship, your assessor will help you to choose your optional units during their first visit.

Outcome of Course and Progression:
On successful completion of this course you will receive a certificate detailing the competence based qualification you achieved, including the units, a certificate stating the knowledge element you received including the units and certificates for both the functional skills elements you achieve plus an overall Intermediate Apprenticeship Certificate to statement you met all the requirement of the course.
There is an opportunity to progress onto the Advanced Apprentice in Retail, the Level 3 qualification or Team Leading and Management NVQ’s if your job role meets the requirements.
Cost:

Course Times/Timetable:
The competence element of this course is course is delivered solely in the work place. After initial assessment and induction your assessor will spend between 1 and 2 hours with you on a monthly basis in order to review what work you have completed and plan with you what work you need to complete before the next visit. Your assessor will also want to observe you in your workplace. All visits will be booked in advance taking into consideration employer and learner needs.
The knowledge element is delivered in the workplace however the exam must be taken in the college. In some cases we may be able to deliver this in the college over 3 full days depending on numbers.
The Functional skills element is delivered (subject to assessment) over 10 weeks and will require 1 day a week attendance in the college.
