Local companies can benefit from specialist training in sustainable and renewable energy right on their doorstep, as Central Sussex College has developed a range of new courses to fit the government's agenda of reducing carbon emissions.

The government's commitment to reducing carbon emissions means that demand for training in renewable technologies is growing year on year. Dean Wynter, Director of the Faculty of Construction at the College, said: 'The European Union set a target of incorporating 20% renewables into its energy mix by 2020. By offering the full range of renewable technologies, Central Sussex College can help companies to play their part in reducing carbon emissions and using sustainable energy which will be a key asset in the coming years, and keep them ahead of their competitors.'

The range of high quality specialist training on offer at the College's Burgess Hill campus has recently been increased to include solar thermal and solar photovoltaic training to the new qualification standards of competency. Further developments will see the delivery of heat source pumps, rain water harvesting and the use of small scale wind turbines which will be available in early autumn. Skilled trainers ensure that delegates are competent in installing and maintaining sustainable energy devices, making it even easier for local construction companies to meet the legislative demands of the industry.

Currently, the College is offering a 50% discount on the course unit 'Installating Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems', which is being funded by the Joint Investment Programme in partnership with Summit Skills. The offer means candidates can save up to £175, and more than one delegate per company can benefit from the scheme. Please call Heather Driver for further details on 01293 442344.

The College was recently recognised for excellence in Construction and Building Services as well as Engineering, one of only a handful to achieve a Part B Training Quality Standard (TQS) in all three areas. It is also one of the largest apprenticeship providers in the area, offering electrical and plumbing apprenticeships alongside specialist short courses for the industry including AM2.
