As the coming year looks set to bring some tough challenges to the hospitality industry, it seems fitting that a new advanced diploma is delivering the skills needed for effective management within the sector.

The Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Hospitality and Tourism Management, awarded by the Institute of Hospitality, is now being offered following the success of the Level 3 Diploma which was launched in 2010.

Aspiring hospitality and tourism managers can study units on a flexible basis, alone or as a whole qualification, which are designed to meet the specific needs of the industry. Between them they cover a multitude of business functions from Finance and Legislation to Sales and Marketing.

Course Leader Julie Stone MIH said; " In the run-up to London 2012, when the South East will be the focus of tourism, hospitality businesses should keep one step ahead of their competition. The flexibility of this programme and its diverse content, including opportunities for personal coaching and development support, is a great way for businesses to gain an advantage during this challenging time."

The first six candidates are employed in hotels throughout the Gatwick Diamond region and in January 2012 they became the first candidates to try out the Institute of Hospitality's new online assessment system, with candidates achieving excellent results.

Lecturer Alison Bull said; "We have so much support from the local industry in delivering this new qualification. The candidates are set to benefit from a number of guest speakers from local business over the coming weeks and they have also had an opportunity to feed back to visiting fellows from the Institute of Hospitality, which will help to shape the future of the qualification."
