Working in partnership

The government-funded Sussex Learning Network (SLN) is a partnership of universities, colleges, training providers and guidance agencies working to bring higher education (HE) within the reach of more vocational learners in Sussex.
It aims to improve access to HE for learners of all ages by creating new learning opportunities, forging agreements on how qualifications are valued, and making sure that people in Sussex understand how they can progress through the system.
Adults in work or wanting to change or develop their careers often don't think higher education has anything to offer them. Our goal is to show that there are opportunities for everyone just around the corner.
How is Central Sussex College involved?
Central Sussex College is one of the SLN’s partner institutions and is working with the network in a variety of ways.
It has signed up to the Sussex Vocational Progression Accord, developed by the SLN to help learners in Sussex get on to the courses they want. This agreement between universities, colleges, local authorities and employers’ organisations will particularly benefit adult learners thinking about university or college study for the first time - either to help them get on at work or to gain the skills and qualifications they need to get a job.
Through its partnership with the SLN the College has been allocated additional student places on its Certificate in Education programme.
Central Sussex staff are involved with the SLN’s work by, for example, undertaking SLN-funded research and through membership of working groups looking at marketing, progression and HE development in further education.
How does the SLN work?
The SLN is bringing together the efforts of many agencies working to improve learning opportunities in Sussex and enhancing their work by:
- providing vocational learners with clear pathways into HE
- providing information and inspiration for people wishing to improve their knowledge and skills
- informing those who advise and support learners about progression into HE
- enabling staff across partner institutions to collaborate on planning, developing and delivering an improved service
- giving employers and learners a chance to influence how vocational learning develops
