Some of the region's brightest brains met at Central Sussex College for the STEM Ambassadors' Celebration Evening on Wednesday 18th November.
The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Ambassadors are skilled volunteers from industry and academia across Sussex, who work alongside teachers of the subjects to inspire and enthuse young people.
The event, held in the College's Le Cordon Vert restaurant, provided guests with an opportunity to share experiences and meet current STEM Ambassadors in industry and academia who actively work with teachers in local schools.
Representatives from local companies, including EDF Energy and Thales Training & Simulation, had the chance to tell guests about projects they have engaged with to inspire tomorrow's workforce and encourage them to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths. Local teachers also attended to learn more about industrial links for their students.
Cllr Brenda Burgess, Mayor of Crawley and Laura Moffatt, Member of Parliament for Crawley, attended the event to meet STEM Ambassadors and hear about projects inspiring young people with their skills and experience in STEM subjects.
The event was hosted by Dr Ajay Sharman, Regional Director of STEMNET South East, and included a tour of the College's industry-standard engineering and construction training workshops.
Graham Peters, Manager of Engineering Prospects, the Centre of Vocational Excellence for Engineering in Sussex, attended the event on behalf of Central Sussex College. He said: "We were delighted to host this important event which brings a wealth of information to the table - by sharing ideas we can ensure that students and school children across Sussex will develop a passion for these subjects, and that local employers will continue to support them through collaborative projects".
