Students from the United Arab Emirates celebrate their National Day
Wednesday 2 December marked National Day of The United Arab Emirates. 38 years ago on the 2nd December 1971, The United Arab Emirates were formed and the current prosperity and harmony of this country is due to the vision of one man, Sheikh Zayed who spearheaded the development of the UAE until 2005.
The College has been involved with the United Arab Emirates Technical Training Project now for some 16 years with over 400 learners passing though our doors. Over these years, the Department of Engineering, now the Faculty of Technology, has played a vital role in training these learners to have a positive effect on this emerging country's future in Engineering.
The College is currently host to some 28 learners, the highest number of any of the host UK Colleges. This shows how highly the UAE TTP value the expertise and facilities that we are able to offer within the Faculty. During their stay here, all the UAE learners also embark on an ESOL programme delivered by the Faculty of Skills for Life.
In the past, we have provided training in Aerospace Engineering, but are now moving into the realms of Mechanical Engineering using our first class facilities. Learners often start at Level 2 progressing on to, and complete, an HND in Engineering at the College, and some of these learners have progressed onto university.
On their special day, the UAE TTP learners joined staff in the Faculty to celebrate. They gave a small presentation on their country and how it has developed over the years to be what it is today.
