Chefs of the future were given an insight into recipe development and taste testing during a visit to Gallucci's restaurant in Crawley this week.

Head chef Tony Staples, and consultant chef Omero Gallucci, spent the morning with the students, who are studying NVQ Level Two in professional cookery at the College's Crawley campus. They were shown how to cook some of the new dishes that are about to appear on the restaurant's spring menu, learned how to taste food properly, and were even made to pinch their noses and close their eyes for a blind tasting of various ingredients to put their taste buds to the test!

"The students took it very seriously and asked some good questions which is promising as they are going to be the chefs of the future," said head chef, Tony Staples, himself a former student of Central Sussex College.

Students taking part in the session had won the chance to spend the morning with the Gallucci catering team after a competition among those on the NVQ Lebvel Two course.

Jo Chappel, Hospitality Course Coordinator, who accompanied them on their visit, said "It certainly gave them something to aim for if they want to turn their skills into a successful career."
