College Principal Dr Russell Strutt with the Investors in People certificate
The College is delighted to have been awarded the Investors in People (IiP) accreditation. As one of the largest employers in the area, and with over 900 full and part-time members of staff, achieving the prestigious IiP standard demonstrates the on-going commitment from the College Leadership Team to support the training and development needs of its staff members, in order to maintain and improve upon the high standards set by the College over recent years.
Achieving the IiP award completes a highly successful 2009 for the College, which saw very good Ofsted and Higher Education inspections (Integrated Quality and Enhancement Review - IQER) and achievement of the Training Quality Standard (TQS) in addition.
Principal, Dr Russell Strutt said "Teaching and learning is at the heart of everything we do. The Assessors were impressed by our drive to achieve outstanding status (Ofsted Grade 1) and staff commitment at all levels to continually improve the experience of our learners. To gain all of these results in one year is fantastic and is testament to the hard work of our staff and the success of our learners."
The IiP framework provides guidelines for improving the performance of organisations through the training and development of staff. The accreditation reflects the significant progress the College has made over the last few years, with the quality of teaching and learning continuing to rate above national averages.
The assessment process saw staff members ranging from senior management, to teaching and administrative staff being interviewed by the assessors. Participants were selected at random and asked a variety of questions relating to leadership and management, communication, equal opportunities and staff training and development. Development Manager, Anita Chown, who led the IiP assessment process, commented, "The IiP assessment confirmed that staff see the College as a good place to work and recognise that there are excellent opportunities available for them to develop their skills and knowledge. Feedback from the Assessors will provide on-going opportunities for the College and help us to further improve the working and learning environment for both our staff and our students.
