The College's state of the art theatre, The Hub, at the Haywards Heath campus, has launched a brand new website enabling prospective audience members and local organisations alike to see what's on, get the latest theatrical news, check facility availability and request tickets, all at the touch of a button!
If you missed a recent production, the site includes comprehensive reviews of past performances including this year's Christmas cracker 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe', which was performed to packed audiences at the beginning of December. It also features photo galleries containing a whole host of resident photographer Nick Ball's superb pictures of the students' accomplishments, both front of house and behind the scenes. In addition, summaries of forthcoming productions such as the Haywards Heath Operatic Society's production of 'HMS Pinafore' in April, and 'Gravity', a one-off showcase of dance and music, which opens at the venue in May, can be viewed on the homepage.
Not only does The Hub theatre boast first class facilities for students at the Haywards Heath sixth form campus, the venue is also available to hire by third parties, with the calendar function on the website's homepage proving invaluable for checking venue availability in advance. The Hub regularly plays host to a number of community events in conjunction with local schools and community groups, which this year have included the Mid Sussex Dance Festival in March, and Shakespeare Schools Festival, which took place in February. For individuals in the area involved with running a club or society, planning meetings, holding an event or a staging a production, The Hub can offer excellent facilities, whilst the website provides directions, parking and other venue information for those attending. In addition to the 260-seater auditorium, there are two rehearsal studios and two dance studios that are available to hire, plus a full-time technician can be hired to assist with the staging of any third party productions as required.
Nationwide organisation FILMCLUB, who work closely with schools and colleges in the UK to give young people free access to thousands of classic and popular films at their after school clubs, recently chose The Hub to host a 'close encounter' event with Hollywood actress Greta Scacchi. The star, who lived in Haywards Heath as a child, and attended the former Haywards Heath Grammar School, which is now Central Sussex College's Haywards Heath campus, hosted a question and answer session in the theatre, with a selected group of students and staff. Scenes from Ms. Scacchi's 1992 film 'The Player' were screened, and she spoke of her experiences at drama school, and starting out in her career, offering advice for budding actors in the audience. Further details of this event are available on the new website www.hubtheatre.co.uk
