Fast Track - Your Skills, Your Future 2010 was attended by 40 local employers
Over a thousand people attended Fast Track - Your Skills, Your Future 2010, which was held on 25 March at K2 Leisure Centre, Crawley. Visitors to this popular event were looking to gain valuable skills and careers advice from the 40 local employers and training providers who were on hand to provide them with the information they needed to kick-start their career or re-train in a new area.
The Town Centre Partnership event, which is aimed at young people looking for the next step after leaving school and their parents, plus those seeking employment or a change of career, featured stands from a whole host of local employers, including Crawley Borough Council, Debenhams, Thales, Sussex Police, Gatwick Airport Ltd, and Lloyds TSB. In addition, staff from Central Sussex College were on hand to discuss courses and training options available at the College in order to secure a career in a chosen area.
As well as specific careers advice from those in the know, everyone who attended the event also got the opportunity to speak to the experts about writing the perfect CV and perfecting interview techniques, and was able to find out more about Psychometric testing, and learn how to make their money go further with young persons' financial advice.
For the first time this year, those who attended were able to pre-register online for the event, with those who did being entered into a prize draw to win an Ipod Nano. Over 140 people pre-registered, which meant they were also able to skip the queue on the day! The lucky winner of the Nano was Catie Slater, 14 from Crawley, who was presented with her prize by Marie Harris, Director of Employer Services at the College, and Chair of the Skills Group from the Town Centre Partnership on 1 April. Catie, who currently attends Hazelwick School, was thrilled to receive her prize, and found the event to be particularly useful in deciding her career path, saying "I decided to go to Fast Track because I wanted to know more about what career options might be available in the Crawley area for when I leave school. The event was really good and I was really pleased to win the Ipod!"
