A group of second year students based at the College's Haywards Heath campus, currently studying for their BTEC National Certificate in Business, got the chance to gain a valuable insight into the world of marketing, when they teamed up with Caffyns, Haywards Heath as part of their course.

Over a period of nine months, the students used a number of marketing techniques to support their College-based learning. Working alongside Caffyns, they were divided into groups, with each group researching a particular product or service, available at the Haywards Heath branch. They were then required to analyse and prepare the results of the findings, before presenting them to Caffyns plc in front of a panel which included one of the company Directors, the branch manager, the sales manager and Selene Edwards, Course Co-ordinator for Business at the campus. Caffyns were really impressed with the presentations and took on some of the recommendations made by the students.

Following the initial stage, the students again worked in groups, designing a promotional campaign for an individual product or service offered by Caffyns. They then needed to successfully pitch their campaign to the panel, before being given the go-ahead to implement their ideas which included designing promotional vouchers and arranging product placement opportunities in The Orchards shopping centre.

Finally, the students gave closing presentations to Caffyns identifying the Marketing tools they had made use of, evaluating their effectiveness in the context the motor vehicle industry, plus outlining their recommendations for Caffyns promotional campaigns in the future. Selene said "Caffyns are pleased with the work completed by the students, They found the insight into the student mindset particularly useful, especially after the group introduced the business to the Marketing opportunities that now present through social media and networking websites, such as facebook."
