College Principal Dr Russell Strutt Chaired the local Area Partnership Board
Central Sussex College has joined all twenty-two secondary schools and one other college from within the Local Authority Planning Area which spans Crawley; Horsham; Haywards Heath; East Grinstead and Burgess Hill, who have made a formal commitment, pledging to work together and design a curriculum offer to meet the needs of all young people in the area. The agreement, which came about as a result of machinery of government changes which put the Local Authority back in control of planning education services for 16-18 year olds in the spring of this year, will allow the institutions to work together for the best benefit of all young people, providing greater educational opportunities, and improved progression to higher level education, training and employment.
College Principal Dr Russell Strutt, who is also Chair of the local Area Partnership Board, hosted a formal signing ceremony at the Hilton Avisford Park Hotel, Arundel on 13 May, during a Partnership Board meeting with heads and other senior staff from schools and colleges in the area present to show their commitment to the new agreement.
Principal Russell Strutt, said "The concept of working together on a unified curriculum arose from the realisation that no one organisation can provide the breadth and depth of curriculum our young people need. Each educational institution has unique strengths and through collaboration over the last 18 months we have all been able to contribute, in our own special ways, to planning and designing curriculum progression routes for 100% of the young people in the area. The formal agreement to continue working together helps to ensure that we can collectively improve aspiration and achievement of young people in central Sussex."
