The theme was 'Avant Garde Rock Chick'
Dawn Bowles, 17, from East Grinstead, a student from the Level 2 Hairdressing Diploma, beat off competition from eight other learners to scoop first prize in a Photographic Hair and Make-up Competition on 16 June at the East Grinstead campus.
The theme of the competition was 'Avant Garde Rock Chick' - inspired by the Autumn/Winter collections at London Fashion Week, and the students who took part were required to think about the whole package, including make-up, fashion and staging for photography, as well as the hair of course! Lecturer Marijke Cantillon photographed the finished look, in order to judge the competition, and students were able to keep the pictures of their work, to form part of a portfolio.
The difficult task of judging the competition fell to Lecturers in Service Industries, Alex East and Marijke Cantillon and Course Co-ordinator for Diplomas in Hair at the College, Hayley May, with the images judged and given an overall grade based on creativity, the level of complexity, balance and neatness. The competition was sponsored by Capital Hair and Beauty, which is a branch of the UK's largest independent supplier to Hairdressers, Beauty Therapists and Nail Technicians, based locally at Manor Royal, Crawley.
