Staff and students from Central Sussex College gathered at the Hawth Theatre, Crawley for a glittering affair on Tuesday 29 June as Media students based at the Crawley campus held their annual 'SCAMPs' awards ceremony. With posh frocks and mini 'Oscars' being handed out, the evening sizzled with a touch of Hollywood glamour!
The SCAMPs, celebrate the high quality of work produced by Media students on the BTEC First, BTEC National Diploma and the Creative Media Diploma at the College. The awards offer students the chance to show off their coursework through the nomination process, and gain recognition from their peers at the ceremony. This year, awards categories included animation, music video, television drama, magazine design, photography and live radio broadcasting. The ceremony also allows students to get involved both behind the scenes with the preparation of the event, as well as in front of an audience on the big night!
This year's SCAMPs ceremony was hosted by two BTEC First students, Daniel Graham and Jay Phillips, and two National Diploma students, Harry Gee-Woolley and Lewis Fry. Many of the awards were also presented by students, enabling them to explain to the audience the creative process behind each piece of work, before the winner was presented with their award. However, two prestigious awards: 'Most Improved Student' and 'Student with Outstanding Contribution', were awarded by Vice-Principal Alex Burford and Adrian Dodwell, who is responsible for 14-19 learning at the College.
Media Technician, Daniel Creed, who was involved in staging the event this year said "The SCAMPs ceremony is the perfect way to celebrate student achievement whilst saying a fond farewell and good luck to those students leaving the Faculty. This year was no exception, and we wish them all every success in the future."
