Music students from Central Sussex College's Sixth Form Haywards Heath campus celebrated the end of term and the end of the academic year with a showcase gig at the College's state-of-the-art Hub theatre, which incorporated a wide variety of musical styles from rock through to R&B.

The playlist on the night featured performances from 30 different College-based groups, including 'Wilbury Grove', 'Broken Tiles' and 'Fresh Baby'. Popular College group 'The Rumour' wowed the audience with its own brand of 'epic rock' as it closed the show with an original composition, 'Cochise'.

The Rumour, who have been tipped by music industry insiders and fans as one to watch, consists of four Crawley-based members - Martyn Wilson on vocals and guitar, Richard Martin on guitar, Josh Franklin on bass and Keiran Giffen on drums. The band members, who are all studying BTEC Music at Central Sussex College's specialist performing arts facilities in Haywards Heath, write their own material and have been described by subject leader Steve McCarthy as having "a strong energy."

Open to members of the public, music industry executives plus staff and fellow students from Central Sussex College, the regular end of term gigs showcase developing talent in the Haywards Heath area and expose students to the standards required for professional music performance and many other aspects of the music industry. Students enrolled on the BTEC Music course at the College - which is equivalent to two A levels - learn about the employment possibilities within the music industry, music history, performance techniques, live band workshops and much more, leading to an overall polished performance.
