Winning time - Ross Mullen completed the course in an impressive time!
Staff, students and members of the general public donned their trainers to run in memory of former Central Sussex College student, Shaun Wrelton, on Friday 9th July.
More than 60 runners ran, walked or jogged around the 5km course at Whiteman's Green playing fields in Cuckfield, near Haywards Heath. The first male to cross the finish line was Russ Mullen, who completed the course in an impressive 17 minutes, 36 seconds - nearly four minutes faster than last year's winner! The first female was Harriet Fry in 27 minutes 22 seconds. Alan Williamson, Subject Leader for Maths at the Haywards Heath campus, was the first male member of staff to finish in 26 minutes 46 seconds and Belinda Campopiano, who works as a Clerical Assistant at the College was the first female member of staff, finishing in 33 minutes and 40 seconds.
This year's race, organised in memory of Shaun, who sadly passed away from Kidney disease in 2003, raised over £700 in entry fees and sponsorship money for Kidney Research UK, who fund life-saving research into kidney disease, to improve the quality of life of those with kidney disorders and to increase public awareness of kidney health issues.
Race organiser, and Sports Lecturer, Claire Newman, who raised an additional £130 for the cause by running the Brighton Marathon this year said, "Once again this year's Fun Run was a successful event, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Many thanks to the BTEC Sport group, who were presented with cups in recognition of their help and support in organising the event, and to everyone else who gave up their valuable time and money to make the day possible."
