Students at the College's Sixth Form Haywards Heath campus celebrated fantastic A Level results last week, with many of them now heading off to take up places at prestigious universities across the country. The overall A Level pass rate at Central Sussex College this year was 98.9% which is 1.3% higher than the national average.

Victoria Denny, from Haywards Heath exceeded her own expectations, by achieving an A* in English Literature, and A* in History, an A in German, and a Distinction at Level 2 in a Pre-University course in Global Perspectives and Independent Research, run in association with Cambridge University. The eighteen-year-old had needed to achieve two As and a B to take up her place at Warwick University to read English Literature in September, and says that she was "pleasantly surprised and very, very happy" on opening her results on Thursday. Victoria, who would eventually like to work in publishing, now plans to relax, and read books for the rest of the summer.

Eighteen-year-old Molly Went, is off to study Chemistry at St Hugh's College, Oxford this September, after being awarded an A* in Chemistry, and A grades in Biology, Maths, and English Language/Literature. After two daunting interviews, one of which took place in front of a panel of three professors, Molly was delighted to have been offered the place, on the condition that she gained A grades, so the A* for Chemistry was "a very nice surprise!" Molly has flourished since joining Central Sussex College, from Oathall Community College two years ago, and her tutors are thrilled that this "modest and unassuming" student has achieved her dream.

Matt York, from Lindfield says he was "surprised, stunned and totally thrilled" with his A level results on Thursday, after achieving As in Sociology and Theatre Studies, a B in English Language, and an A* in German. Matt is excited to be taking up his place at Nottingham University in September to study German.

It was a case of matching marks in opposite subjects for friends Katherine Goodger and Rachel Bailey, who attained an amazing two A*s and two As each! Katherine, who is off to Leicester University to study a degree in Medical Physiology achieved her results in Maths and science-based subjects, whilst linguist Rachel is heading to Durham to read Spanish and French, after gaining A Levels in French, Spanish, English Literature and English Language. Katherine and Rachel, who are both eighteen, and from Haywards Heath were equally delighted with their results.

Budding Film Director Oliver Hunt is celebrating fantastic results, which mean he will be heading to Bucks New University, in High Wycombe, to study Film and Television Production this September. The eighteen-year-old former Oathall Community College student, who says he was expecting to get B-grades in his exams, achieved a Double Distinction in his BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts, an A* in his Film Studies A Level, and an A in his Photography AS. Oliver says "in the run up to my exams I became very focussed - I knew what I wanted to achieve, and realised I would have to work hard for it. When I was at school I was never a particularly high-achiever, and believe the brilliant teaching and facilities at Central Sussex College have enabled me to get this far." Oliver, who lives in Haywards Heath, recently completed a summer course at The Brighton Film School, and after completing his degree, hopes to break into Film Directing.
