Richard Hailstone
Central Sussex College has appointed a new Vice Principal for its Sixth Form Haywards Heath campus. Richard Hailstone takes up the role this August, following the retirement of predecessor Dr Alex Burford. Richard's appointment heralds the start of an exciting time for the College, with work scheduled to begin on the final phase of the £30million redevelopment of the campus later this month.
In his role at Central Sussex College, Richard will be responsible for leading and managing the Sixth Form Haywards Heath campus, and its 1,200 students.
Richard said: "I am delighted to be joining Central Sussex College and to have the opportunity to build on the excellent progress Alex has made at the campus over the last eight years as Vice Principal. I'm looking forward to driving forward the College's plans for curriculum and quality development and to overseeing the culmination of the campus redevelopment."
Richard brings a wealth of experience within the further education sector to the role. Having obtained his PGCE from the University of London, Institute of Education in 1988, he has worked for the last twenty three years in schools and Colleges. He joins Central Sussex College from Sussex Downs College, where he latterly held the position of Cross College Curriculum Manager, with responsibility for Accounting, Business, Economics and Law courses at both Lewes Sixth Form and Park Sixth Form in Eastbourne. Prior to this role he worked at Blatchington Mill School in Hove, where he spent five years as Assistant Head Teacher in charge of the sixth form.
Richard has a BA Honours degree in Economics from Manchester University where he briefly trained as an accountant before embarking on his teaching career.
