Students get to work on their enterprising ideas!
Young Business students at the College's Crawley campus, were treated to a day of innovation and fast moving technology by Stephen Britt, an award winning inventor and entrepreneur, and John Easton, Chief Technical Strategist at IBM at the 'Inspriation Enterprise event' on Friday 7th October.
Sound business practice and realities of the insurance market were covered by Martin Carr from Legal and General and in the afternoon Stephen Britt presented his plans for launching the electric bike pedals, his invention to market.
John Easton captured the imagination of students by exploring the pros and cons of a technology society. He also demonstrated the power of Watson an IBM computer intelligent enough to compete successfully against the top winners of Jeopardy, an American quiz show.
Students were asked to put together their own ideas for the outline of a business proposal that would take advantage of the 2012 Olympics. They then presented their plans to the seminar leaders who judged the best idea from which the best team won an award.
Student Cyrus Sarkari, from the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Business said: "The day was excellent. It was really interesting to talk to Stephen about his invention, and I found the discussions about technology and business really fascinating".
Anahita Henry, Business Courses Co-ordinator at the campus, agreed with Cyrus and added that the aim of the day was to inspire students to look at how they develop ideas and bring them through innovation to reality. She said: "We are very grateful to Richard Deighton of Inspiration Enterprise for helping us provide such an entertaining and thought provoking day."
