The Vocal Group dressed up for the occasion!

Central Sussex College's talented vocal group performed a nostalgic set at a 1950s-style charity dinner in Horsted Keynes this month, stepped into character and performed some iconic songs from the era to entertain guests.

The vocal group, which comprises of students based at the Sixth Form Haywards Heath campus has been performing at local events together since last year, and this September, original members Georgi Thorburn, Katie George and Alex Wright welcomed new performers Nikki Yawson, Charley Lewis, Katie Tonkinson, Demi O'Rourke and Bryony Brigden to the group, who were accompanied by Music Lecturer Samantha Wood.

They wowed the audience with well-known numbers which included: Fever (originally performed by Peggy Lee); Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy (as performed by the Andrews Sisters); Unchained Melody (made famous by the Righteous Brothers in 1965, but previously a hit for a number of other recording artists throughout the 1950s); and Goodnight Sweetheart (a hit for the Spaniels and also for the McGuire Sisters in 1954).

Organiser, of the charity dinner, Hazel Harris, said: "I would like to thank Central Sussex College's Vocal Group for their contribution to the evening, they did a great job and all the guests really loved it! The girls sang beautifully, looked fantastic and were a credit to the College, as well as really adding to the evening. I am delighted that the evening raised £3,800 for the Ugandan Farm project, which is a truly wonderful result!"

Samantha Wood said: "The whole event was a great success, and the Vocal Group performed brilliantly and really got into character. We are now looking forward to preparing some festive numbers for the College's annual Christmas concert, which will take place on Monday 12 December at the The Hub theatre."
