Students and staff from the Faculty of Educational Development at Central Sussex College which supports learners with learning difficulties and disabilities attended their annual awards ceremony on Wednesday 9th November. Attended by over 100 students, parents and carers, the 60 successful students were presented with certificates by Director of the Faculty, Nigel Colgate.
Special guest at the event was Peter Mansfield Clark from Crawley's Open House who is link College Governor for the Faculty.
All students achieved certificates in Personal & Social Development, Employment Skills and Functional Skills. For the first time this year, those on the Step 5 programme achieved Entry 3 Level vocational qualifications in subjects such as Catering and Hospitality, Motor Vehicle and Hair and Beauty. Others gained BTEC vocational awards in Caring for Children, Construction, Creative Media, Sport & Leisure, Public Service and Health & Social Care. These new qualifications have been instrumental in helping many of the learners progress to higher level training in other areas of the College.
Curriculum Team Leader, Gillian Barton, spoke of the hard work of students and staff during the past academic year while a new curriculum was introduced for all levels of classes. Faculty Director, Nigel Colgate closed proceedings by speaking of his pride at what staff and students had achieved during his first year as Faculty Director.
