A number of events took place at Central Sussex College this year, in support of Children in Need. With activities planned for each day of the week running up to Friday 18 November, Childcare and Health and Social Care students at the Crawley campus took centre stage in the fundraising efforts, raising £690 in total!
On Tuesday 15 November, schools link students aged 14-16, who attend the College for one day a week to study the Diploma in Caring for Children whilst still at school, organised a cake sale at the Crawley campus, and raised £100. The following day, students from the Level 1 Diploma also sold cakes to staff and students, and added a 'guess the number of sweets in the jar' game, both of which raised £129. Student Crystal Riggs, 17, from Crawley, raised £47 of this by herself. Thursday was a day of dressing up and collecting funds around the College for a group of Level 2 Health and Social Care students, who managed to raise over £200 for their efforts!
Friday saw yet more cakes on sale by more 14-16 Schools Link students from the Diploma in Caring for Children course. Students Nikita Francis, 18, from Burgess Hill, and Neerali Nayee, 18, from Crawley, who are both studying for the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, dressed up along with Lecturer Mel Laidler, and Pastoral Support Tutor, James Izzard to collect donations at main reception during the morning. Friday's activities raised a combined total of £206. Nikita managed to raise a further £87 by waxing fellow student Rob Wickham's legs, and Amy White, 20, from the same course raised £20 through a sponsored silence.
Children in Need events at the College didn't stop on Friday, as staff and students from Educational Development help two 'spotty tea parties' on Tuesday 22 and Thursday 24 November. In addition to serving tea and cakes, they also held a raffle, with one of the prizes a fantastic Pudsey Bear cake, which had been donated to the cause. In total, they raised a further £190.
At the College's Haywards Heath campus, students painted Pudsey Bear murals and collected £46.
