Twenty seven Level 1 and 2 BTEC IT students from the College's Crawley camps enjoyed a trip to the Science Museum in London recently, organised by lecturer, Sue Porter.

Whilst there the students got the chance to experiment with a number of state-of-the-art exhibits, including one project called the 'Listening Post' which features computer-synthesised voices reading real-time text fragments from thousands of live, internet chat rooms, bulletin boards and other global online public forums.

It is described by the Science Museum as a 'dynamic portrait' of online communication. The artwork is world renowned as a masterpiece of electronic and contemporary art and a monument to the ways we find to connect with each other and express our identities online.

They also viewed a 3D film about the Hubble Space Station at the IMAX theatre housed within the museum, which proved particularly popular with the students. Level 1 student Janat Chaudhry, 16, from Crawley said: "We watched Hubble in 3D, it was truly amazing and you felt like you were in space with them." Fellow student, Ryan Bhikoo, who is 16, and studying for the Level 2 qualification added: "It was amazing. The 3D film was so good it was almost like I was part of a film!"

Organising a trip at the very end of term seemed to have its advantages, as the museum was very quiet, and students were able to try out the many and various interactive exhibits without queuing!

Level 1 Student Zach Hawkins, 17, from Crawley said: "It was great visiting London, mainly because it is different from going into our town and we get a chance to see part of our capital. The 3D film of the Hubble was my favourite part of the trip, as we got to peer through the wonders of the universe".
