Two students from the Sixth Form Haywards Heath campus, Robyn Kemp, 16 from Horsham, and Sophie Thackray, 18, from Haywards Heath, beat off stiff competition from students across London and the south east to win through to a selection day for the Sparks media panel. This is an exciting opportunity for talented students, which will see them working with Ignite, a media consultancy company, on a range of projects with major broadcasters and other global brands.
Robyn and Sophie were offered the chance to take part through the College's Able and Talented programme, which supports students who are talented in subject areas such as media and the creative arts, as well as those who are very able in traditional academic subjects.
The selection day, was held at ITV's London studios on the South Bank, where the students participated in challenging individual and group activities, culminating in group presentations on proposals for a new television programme.
Robyn and Sophie found the day challenging, but exciting and inspiring, and they particularly enjoyed the high level of competition with the other talented students who were present. They are now working hard on the final written assignments before decisions are made next month. If successful, the students will join the Sparks panel and go on to work with Ignite's clients, including the BBC, ITV and Coca-Cola, on new creative projects.
David Towsey, Able and Talented Co-ordinator at the Haywards Heath campus, commented: "I am delighted that Robyn and Sophie have been so successful in winning through to this selection day. The work they have already produced is enormously creative and I know they are embracing the challenge of proving themselves against the very best in the south east, under the eye of some of the top people in the industry. This is exactly the sort of opportunity we like to grab, as it gives our talented students access to the best experiences, allowing them to show how much they can shine."
