- Complete the application form, which you can find online or at the back of the prospectus, and return it to Admissions.
- You will then receive an acknowledgement of your application and following that, you will be invited to an interview.
Full-time and work-based learning students who are still at school and are applying for courses at Burgess Hill, East Grinstead or Crawley will be invitied to a basic skills assessment, followed by a short informal interview with Student Support; this is your chance to obtain information about financial help and welfare issues. You will then receive a letter inviting you to an interview with the course tutor.
What to expect at your Basic Skills Interview
Central Sussex College uses a fully interractive and self marking initial assessment tool to ensure applicants are applying for the correct level of course and that we are aware of any numeracy, literacy and learning support needs.
You will be invited in small groups to complete the assessment and given up to two hours to do so. The assessment also contains dyslexia and dyscalculia signifiers and will indicate what level you are working at from pre-entry to Key Skills Level 3 for literacy and numeracy.
The assessment works through basic literacy, numeracy and ICT questions increasing in challenge, depending on what you get right.
Here are some examples of the sorts of questions you will be asked:
What to expect at an interview with a tutor
Course interviews can differ depending on which course you apply for, but they are carried out in a friendly, relaxed manner. All applicants will get a chance to speak to a member of the course team on a one-to-one basis so you will get an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
